Climate Outlook 2025: Shorter Dry Season, Higher Yields
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has announced that the 2025 dry season is projected to be shorter than in previous years so this short dry season can become opportunity. Only about 19% of the country will experience a full dry season, thanks to persistently high rainfall since early this year.
This presents a major opportunity for rice farmers:
-
Adequate water supply ensures proper irrigation
-
Lower risk of extreme drought
-
Higher productivity due to more stable climate conditions
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia), rice production in January–July 2025 increased by 14.93% year-on-year, reaching 21.76 million tons.
What It Means for Farmers
With a shortened dry season, farmers can:
-
Plant more than one growing cycle within the year
-
Reduce operational costs associated with drought mitigation
-
Leverage modern tools to improve efficiency and yield
Still, these weather shifts require farmers to adapt quickly and adopt the right equipment for smart farming.
